If you have localized areas of fat that are resistant to healthy lifestyle practices, you may be interested in liposuction in San Antonio. Many people find that there is at least one area of their body with stubborn fat. This stubborn fat persists even when we diet and exercise. Our highly regarded plastic surgeons, Dr. Delio Ortegon and Dr. Michael Baumholtz, can perform liposuction to target and remove stubborn fat.
Choosing Liposuction in San Antonio: Who’s a Good Fit?
Men and women who have a stable body weight and localized fat deposits that are resistant to diet and exercise may want to consider liposuction. Liposuction can remove fat from certain areas of the body, but should not be used as a tool for significant weight loss. Liposuction, or lipoplasty, is the surgical removal of fat, and can remove fat where other methods have failed.
Benefits of liposuction include:
- targeted removal of stubborn fat
- improved contours on the body
- improved proportions of the body
The best candidates for liposuction are healthy non-smokers who are not obese. The best results are achieved when the patient is in good health, but desires body-slimming in specific areas that don’t respond to diet or exercise.

Liposuction in San Antonio: What to Expect
Liposuction is a multi-step process, and is performed under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation. First, the area being treated is infused with tumescent fluid. This fluid helps keep the proper balance of fluid in the area, since some fluids are removed along with fat. Then, small incisions are made, so that one of our plastic surgeons can access the targeted fat. The doctor uses a thin tube to suction from the area being treated. After the proper amount of fat is removed, your small incisions are closed.
Lipo Recovery and Results
Following your liposuction with Dr. Ortegon or Dr. Baumholtz, you will need to spend some time resting, and will need wear special compression garments to ensure proper healing. During a follow-up visit soon after surgery, your drains and stitches will be removed. Swelling and bruising is common, but these are temporary side effects. As the swelling subsides, you should see results of your liposuction procedure.
As long as your weight remains stable, your liposuction results should be long lasting. Fat will not return to the treated area after surgery. However, liposuction does not remove all fat cells from the area, so it is possible to re-gain weight. For optimum results, you must maintain a good diet and rigorous exercise regimen.
