Dr. Baumholtz is a Board Certified Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon whose expertise encompasses a wide variety of cosmetic and reconstructive procedures. Affectionately known as Dr. B, he prides himself on the relationships he builds and maintains with each of his patients. Dr. B strongly believes in helping his patients look and feel better about themselves. He often tells patients that together – we’re trying to access their beauty within.Although originally from Philadelphia, he spent 3 years in San Antonio completing his Plastic and Reconstructive residency and in 2013, he and his family decided to return to the colorful and diverse city of San Antonio! Dr. B and his wife have two wonderful children and two furry children – Shadow (the German Shepherd who believes he is human), and Sidney the cat (who hides from the dog). B earned a B.A. in English from Kenyon College, a Masters of Science (M.S.) from Thomas Jefferson University, and his medical degree (MD) from Jefferson Medical College (Philadelphia). Dr. After medical school, Dr. B completed a General Surgery residency at York Hospital and became Board Certified in General Surgery.
He then went on to complete a Hand and Microsurgery Fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston and a Plastic and Reconstructive residency here in San Antonio at the University of Texas Health Science Center. His training encompassed both adult and pediatric patients. After completing his training in San Antonio, Dr. B returned to Philadelphia for 4 years. There he was an Assistant Professor and staff Surgeon at Temple University Hospital in the Division of Plastic Surgery and the Consultant Plastic Surgeon at the Shriner’s Hospital for Children in Philadelphia. Year after year, however, Dr. B and his family came back to San Antonio for vacations and in 2013 decided it was time to return and stay.

Currently he is on staff at several of the hospitals here in San Antonio, including Forest Park Medical Center, Methodist Hospital, Christus Santa Rosa Westover Hills, and the Children’s Hospital of San Antonio. He serves as Chief of Staff – elect at Christus Santa Rosa Westover Hills Hospital. He is part of the teaching faculty at UTHSCSA for the Plastic Surgery fellowship program and a staff Plastic Surgeon at the Audie Murphy Veteran’s Hospital. Dr. B is actively involved in his professional societies including the American Society of Plastic Surgeon (ASPS), American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ASAPS), American Society for Surgery of the Hand (ASSH), American Association of Hand Surgeons (AAHS), Texas Society of Plastic Surgeons (TSPS), and the Bexar County Medical Society.
Dr. B has lectured widely to other physicians and surgeons on topics of plastic and hand surgery including: sternal reconstruction, complex hernia repair, post bariatric body contouring, head and neck reconstruction, hand trauma, and upper / lower extremity reconstruction. He has published a number of articles on both adult and pediatric plastic surgical issues and his work has been presented at local, regional, national, and international meetings. He was awarded 1st place paper by the Texas Society of Plastic Surgeons at their annual meeting and is honored to continue to teach other surgeons and trainees.
