Tummy Tuck

At San Antonio Cosmetic Surgery, a tummy tuck can give you a flatter, more contoured abdominal area.

Pregnancy and aging can permanently change the muscles and skin of your stomach. You may find that diet and exercise alone do not return your belly to your younger, pre-baby appearance.

If you dislike the appearance of your belly, San Antonio cosmetic surgeon Dr. Delio Ortegon can perform a tummy tuck.

Choosing a Tummy Tuck: Who's a Good Fit?

Women, especially women who have been pregnant, can find that their stomach is permanently distended. This is because pregnancy and aging can result in loose skin, abdominal fat deposits, and weakened abdominal muscles. If diet and exercise are not enough to improve these conditions, you should consider a tummy tuck.

Having a tummy tuck from Dr. Ortegon can:

  • remove excess fat and skin from the abdomen,
  • tighten the abdominal muscles, and
  • flatten your abdomen.

In order to have an abdominoplasty, you must be a healthy non-smoker.

Tummy Tuck in San Antonio: What to Expect

Tummy tucks are performed under general anesthesia. One of the first steps is planning the incision, which is performed across your abdomen, below your belly button. The doctor will place the incision in an area where it can be easily concealed after surgery.

During the tummy tuck, he will remove excess skin and fat, and repair (or tighten) your abdominal muscles with sutures. If necessary, liposuction may be performed to remove fat from the trunk, back and other surrounding areas. When abdominal contouring is complete, the doctor will close the incisions using sutures.

The Results

Following your tummy tuck, you need to rest and recover. You can’t bend over or lift objects, but the doctor will recommend that you get up and walk as soon as possible. After a tummy tuck, you will have to care for your incisions and your surgical drains, and may need to wear a special compression garment. Medication will be prescribed to help manage pain.

You will have a follow up visit to have your drains removed, and another visit to have your sutures removed. Dr. Ortegon will provide specific details about your post-operative routine, including when you can expect to return to work (typically 7-14 days after surgery) and when you can exercise again.

After your tummy tuck, there will be a scar on your abdomen. However, this scar is carefully placed where it can be concealed beneath a swimsuit or undergarments. Over time, this scar should fade and flatten out significantly.
