Non-Invasive Cellulite Removal
If you’re a woman, no matter what your level of fitness, odds are you have at least some cellulite. Nine out of 10 women have cellulite, making it a uni
versally hated condition. Despite the false promises of many supposed cellulite treatments, there hasn’t been much anyone could do to get rid of this telltale dimpling of the skin on the thighs and bottom.
But that has changed with the introduction of Cellfina™. Cellfina™ is a new FDA-approved procedure that dramatically improves the appearance of cellulite for at least three years. We offer Cellfina™ at San Antonio Cosmetic Surgery.
What is Cellfina™?
Cellfina™ treats the primary cause of cellulite, the connective bands are woven throughout the fat in the thighs and buttocks. This in-office procedure is minimally invasive and only takes around an hour.
Why Do Women Have Cellulite?
Most people attribute women’s higher percentage of body fat compared with men as the reason behind cellulite. But that’s not true; it really comes down to anatomy, namely the bands that connect the skin and muscle. Men have thicker bands and more of them. Plus, their bands form a crisscross pattern. This keeps the fat in place, but it doesn’t make that fat pucker.
Women, on the other hand, have vertical connective bands. This arrangement traps fat in pockets. At the spots of the connective bands, the skin is pulled down while fat pushes up around it. This creates the dimpling on the thighs and buttocks commonly associated with cellulite.
You and Dr. Ortegon first identify your target areas of dimpling. The skin in that area is treated with topical anesthetic. The Cellfina™ handpiece is then placed on the target area. The system uses a suction stabilizer to pull the skin taut and stretch the cellulite-causing connective bands. The Cellfina™ handpiece then inserts a tiny needle to break those connective bands. Once the bands are released the skin bounces back upwards, as it is no longer pulled down in the various spots by the bands.
How Long Does The Cellfina™ Procedure Take?
A Cellfina™ treatment with Dr. Ortegon takes about one hour. During this time, on average, 20 to 30 pinky nail to thumbnail-size dimples can be treated. Does the procedure hurt and are there side effects? Cellfina™ is only minimally invasive, using a small needle-sized device to break the connective bands. Afterward, there is some soreness, tenderness, and some minor bruising at the treatment sites. Any residual pain passes in a couple of days. We advise our patients to wear Spanx or compression shorts for a week after their Cellfina™ session..
Cellfina™ Treatment Results
Your results are not immediate, as the tissue needs to settle. Results will show themselves in as little as three days, as the skin calms down. From there, Cellfina™ research of patient satisfaction shows these positives:
- Patient satisfaction at three months is 85%
- Satisfaction at one year is 94%
- Patient satisfaction is 96% at two years
As of now, the FDA clearance for this procedure is three years. Over this period, the results attained with Cellfina™ have not shown to reverse. The duration of your results could be longer.
